Who Can Ride Macon County Transit?

Anyone! Whether its medical, shopping, employment, or education, Macon County Transit will provide you service.

 

What Hours Can I Ride Macon County Transit?

 

MCT operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please be ready for your ride at least 1 hour before your scheduled appointment time. Out of county medical transportation will require earlier pick-ups.

 

Scheduling A Ride

 

Local (Franklin Area) requests are taken on a first call first served basis. Scheduling your ride as far in advance as possible is preferred but can be made no later than 11:00 a.m. at least one business day prior to the date of the trip. If calls are received after 11:00 a.m. or if route capacity is already met, transportation will not be provided.

 

Outside the Franklin area trips must be scheduled at least one (1) week in advance and will be taken on availability only. Appointment times for out of county trips must be no earlier than 10:00 a.m. and no later than 2:00 p.m.

 

Ride requests are not taken during the weekend; therefore, a request for transportation on Monday must be made by 11:00 a.m. the preceding Friday. If calls are received after 11:00 a.m. transportation may not be provided.

 

 
General Public Fares (as of January 2022):

 

General Pubic Transportation is provided by MCT on a space availability basis only.

Discounted rates may be available for elderly, veterans, and/or persons with a disability. A Personal Care Attendant (PCA) is a person who must assistant the passenger if needed. One PCA may ride at no charge. All others will be charged regular fares.

 

Local Fares per Boarding: $2.50

 

 

Exact Change Is Required

 

MCT operators are not permitted to make change. Any amount above the fare amount will be considered a donation.

 

*Passes may be purchased from your driver or at the Macon County Transit offices located at 36 Pannell Lane off Lake Emory Road in Franklin, NC.

    • Only $1.00 One Way!

  • Monthly Pass - $30.00 (Unlimited Rides)

  • Drop-offs can be made in between these bus stops by telling the driver when you board the bus. You MUST call the office when ready for pick-up.

  • Mountain Gem can deviate up to 1/4 mile from the route upon request.

Payment:

 

Payment for transportation must be made to the driver in the exact amount of the fare or pre-purchased fare card. Drivers do not make change.

 

Cancelling A Ride:

 

If you must cancel a schedule ride on Macon County Transit, please do so by notifying the MCT Office at (828) 349-2222. If after hours, please leave a message. MCT requires cancellations to be at least one hour before your scheduled pick-up time to avoid a No Show fee. By notifying MCT early, you allow us to provide transportation to someone else.
