Who Can Ride Macon County Transit?

Anyone! Whether its medical, shopping, employment, or education, Macon County Transit will provide you service.

 

What Hours Can I Ride Macon County Transit?


MCT operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please be ready for your ride at least 15 minutes prior to MCT’s scheduled pickup time or 1 hour before your scheduled appointment time. Out of county medical transportation will require earlier pick-ups.

 

Scheduling A Ride

 

Local (Franklin Area)

 

Requests are taken on a first call first serve basis. Scheduling your ride at least two business days in advance is preferred but requests can be made until 11:00 a.m. the business day prior to the trip. If calls are received after 11:00 a.m. or if route capacity is already met, transportation will not be provided.

 

Ride requests are not taken during the weekend; therefore, a request for transportation on Monday must be made by 11:00 a.m. the preceding Friday. If calls are received after 11:00 a.m. or if route capacity is already met transportation will not be provided.

 

Outside the Franklin Area

 

Trips must be scheduled at least one (1) week in advance and will be taken on availability only. Appointment times for out of county trips must be no earlier than 10:00 a.m. and no later than 2:00 p.m.


Transportation to Jackson County Transportation is provided twice per day. Appointment times must be between 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for the first route, and 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for the second route.

 

Cancelling A Ride

 

If you must cancel a scheduled ride on Macon County Transit, please do so by notifying the MCT Office at (828) 349-2222. If after hours, please leave a message. MCT requires cancellations to be at least one hour before your scheduled pick-up time to avoid a No Show fee. By notifying MCT early, you allow us to provide transportation to someone else. (*Please See Door to Door No Show Policy.)

 

 
General Public Fares (as of January 2022):

 

General Public Transportation is provided by MCT on a space availability basis only.

Discounted rates may be available for elderly, veterans, and/or persons with a disability. A Personal Care Attendant (PCA) is a person who must assist the passenger if needed. One PCA may ride at no charge on door to door only. All others will be charged regular fares.

 

Local Fares Per Boarding: $3.00
Local Fares For Elderly or Disabled: $2.50

 

Exact Change Is Required

 

MCT operators are not permitted to make change. Any amount above the fare amount will be considered a donation.

 

*Passes may be purchased from your driver or at the Macon County Transit offices located at 36 Pannell Lane off Lake Emory Road in Franklin, NC.

  • Drop-offs can be made in between these bus stops by telling the driver when you board the bus. You MUST call the office when ready for pick-up.

  • Mountain Gem can deviate up to 1/4 mile from the route upon request.

Macon County Transit WNC Express Route

 

WNC Express Route

 

Macon Transit's WNC Express Route operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

 

From Macon County NC, we pick up passengers in Haywood County to Asheville NC, where we will drop off passengers at medical appointments, shopping centers, VA Medical Center, Gray Hound Bus station and Asheville Regional Airport.

 

The fare is $35.00.
